In our continuing summer series of introductions/Happy Anniversary posts, we are so happy to wish Birch Paper & Design's Creative Director, Paula Chuchic and her husband Mark a very Happy Anniversary! We asked Paula the same questions we asked Laura about her memories of their wedding... 38 years ago! Though fashions may change, the details Paula helps brides plan for their weddings stand timeless for her own day.
How did you meet your husband, and how long were you together before you got married?
Blind date 40 years ago… been together and enjoying each other ever since!
What was your favorite part of planning your wedding?
Trying to personalize it to represent us as a couple along with the wisdom of my mom’s event planning input.
Why did you choose the invitation suite you chose? Were there any special considerations you took in designing your invites?
I hear from so many brides today that they want a timeless look but with a modern feel, and I remember aiming for that too. We both liked green, and the colored parchment with the water-colored background print had the right feel for me. (I still like it!) So many options today make the possibilities even more exciting.
What did you love about your wedding? What was your favorite part of the day?
The wedding began at 2pm and was still going strong at midnight - best day ever! We both come from large extended families with the same Eastern European heritage (Croatian) and there was a tradition of making the most of each celebration. Champagne and hors d'oeuvres after the ceremony, then dinner and dancing later in the evening. It was priceless to see the bonding of all our families and friends - memorable in the best way.
What would you do differently if you had to do it all over again today?
What advice do you have for brides-to-be for planning their wedding? for their wedding day? What advice do you have for couples for their marriage?
I’d encourage every bride to enjoy the planning process, don’t stress, and make it your own. Don’t feel bound to stick to the way you’ve always seen it. You want your day to be an expression of your personalities whether it’s large or small, or if you have a limited or unlimited budget! The important thing is remembering you’re getting married to the one you love and you want your families and friends to share in your joy.
Happy 38th Anniversary, Paula and Mark!
